Choose an experienced, proven attorney

The decision is probably one of the most important you will make in your life.  How do you choose a criminal defense attorney?  As the disclaimer below suggests, a website can not provide enough information for a good decision.  Websites are great to help narrow-down the field, but you need to meet with any lawyer you may hire.  At the very least, you should speak with the lawyer on the phone.  There are many good lawyers in any area and most are certainly capable of helping you.  However, the criminal process is long and stressful.  You need a lawyer who is always available for questions.  You need someone who will listen to the facts and circumstances of your situation.  Most importantly, you need a lawyer who helps you feel comfortable.  Narrow your list of possible lawyers, ask friends or family if they know any of those on your list.  Call the lawyer and speak with them.  Set up a free consultation to discuss your case.  You should interview the lawyers you are considering.   We offer free initial consultations to help you make this decision.  We also provide clients with our cell phone numbers so that they know a lawyer can be reached at any time.
A word about lawyer fees- most lawyers charge based upon the amount of experience they have with a particular type of case.  Established criminal defense attorneys are going to be more expensive.  Our fees are not the cheapest, but they do reflect our experience handling complex criminal cases.  Unlike personal injury attorneys, criminal defense attorneys are not able to charge based upon results.  Instead, the experienced criminal defense attorneys are going to charge a flat rate amount for the time they know is needed to achieve the result you desire.  If you know this going in to the process of hiring a lawyer, it may help you decide a bit easier.

Remember - ask questions.
Each case is different, so simply asking for prior results of certain types of cases is not any indication of that lawyer's qualifications.  Ask about your case and what steps you need to take to protect yourself and to resolve your issue.
