Federal Criminal Defense

The federal government typically charges conspiracy to possess or conspiracy to distribute drugs.  In order to be charged by the federal government, the activities of the conspiracy must cross state lines.  Often wiretaps, GPS monitoring, search warrants and other investigative tools are used before any charges are filed.  It is important that you have a lawyer who has handled complex federal drug conspiracies as there are often mandatory minimum sentences involved with any federal drug offense.  Additionally, while only advisory now, the Federal Sentencing Guidelines are still a starting point for most judges.  You need an attorney who understands the Guidelines, the possible additional penalties they can add as well as the important factors that can create a mitigating role.  The Goldfarb Law Group spends a considerable amount of our time in federal courts and have acquitted clients on some of the most serious federal charges.  We have developed respect among the United States Attorney’s Office as they know we will proceed to a jury trial to prove our client’s innocence.  This relationship often assists us in obtaining favorable dispositions for our clients without the need for a trial.
Often, before federal charges are filed, agents will attempt to contact you.  Most DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency), FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation), ATF&E (Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) agents know our firm.  We regularly get involved in cases before charges are filed and, in some cases, can prevent any indictment from issuing for our clients.  If you are contacted by a federal agent, it is important that you know your rights.  Having a lawyer can make all the difference.
